How RumiTech, a Sustainable Energy Initiative, Covered Machine Costs in its First Production with Rownd CNC

27 January 2026

A Startup Building the Energy Infrastructure of the Future: RumiTech

In a world where sustainability and renewable energy are gaining increasing importance, RumiTech, a local technology startup developing off-grid power systems by combining wind and solar energy, has achieved significant momentum in the industry. The startup, which recently raised $415,000 from İTÜ ARI Teknokent and various investors, bringing its total investment to $665,000, develops innovative solutions for smart cities and industrial areas.

However, like any hardware-focused startup, RumiTech faced critical production and cost barriers that needed to be overcome during its rapid growth and mass production phase.

Challenging Production Need: 1200 Custom-Designed Inserts

During the assembly phase of RumiTech's systems, special plastic parts supporting the equipment on the pole are produced by injection molding. For other components to be mounted with bolts onto this plastic part, M8 inserts, into which the bolts would be tightened, had to be placed inside the plastic mold during the injection phase.

These inserts were not standard parts; they were approximately 100 mm long and hexagonal on the outside. Furthermore, the outer part required special grooving operations to create strong surfaces and gripping areas at different angles with the plastic. Since mass production would be initiated in the injection process, it was essential to produce exactly 1200 pieces flawlessly in one go.

Outsourcing this scale and type of production would not only create a very high cost item but also significantly extend the project's lead time.

Production Independence with 3 Hours of Training

Although the mechanical engineers in the RumiTech team had general conceptual and theoretical knowledge about machining, their professional area of expertise was not directly CNC operation or machining. The complex coding and expertise barrier required by traditional industrial CNC machines would normally make it impossible for them to carry out this production in-house.

It was at this point that the Rownd Desktop CNC, which makes industrial-type production accessible to everyone, came into play.

Thanks to its user-friendly interface and smart software ecosystem, the RumiTech team received only 3 hours of brief training to use the Rownd CNC. The team, which established its own desktop factory with Rownd by eliminating the technical expertise barrier, immediately started production.

1200 Parts in 5 Days and Incredible ROI

The result was a lesson for hardware startups. The team, without professional CNC experience, successfully completed the production of 1200 custom-grooved M8 inserts they needed in just 5 days.

The most striking aspect was the financial dimension. The amount RumiTech saved by producing this first mass production batch of 1200 units in-house with the Rownd CNC, instead of outsourcing it, was almost equal to the total purchase cost of the machine. In other words, the Rownd CNC paid for itself completely with just the first production batch.

Conclusion

RumiTech's success story proves how strongly Rownd Precision's "Manufacturing for Everyone" vision resonates in the field. Without the need for millions in investments, colossal factory spaces, or years of CNC mastery, innovative startups can accelerate their production processes, protect their intellectual property, and radically reduce their costs with Rownd.
