Architect of Challenging Environments: Nicomatic
Established in France in 1976 and currently operating in over 20 countries across 5 continents with more than 900 employees, Nicomatic is a global giant providing project-specific engineering and manufacturing support to high-tech sectors that do not tolerate errors, such as aviation, defense, space, medical, and industrial systems.
The company designs micro-connectors, cable assemblies, and integrated electronic subsystems, especially for systems operating in challenging environments (harsh environments) such as high vibration, extreme temperature differences, and electromagnetic interference (EMI), thus pioneering the most innovative solutions in the sector. Nicomatic TR (Ankara), the company's official subsidiary in Turkey, is one of the most important R&D and production centers in this global innovation network.
Critical Need in High-Tech Manufacturing: Confidentiality, Speed, and Independence
When developing projects in fields such as the defense and space industry, the biggest bottleneck in the process of designing an innovative micro-connector or subsystem is transforming designs into physical prototypes. In traditional methods, outsourcing contract services for R&D and prototype production or waiting for large industrial lines to become available not only slows down the process for weeks but also carries the risk of confidential designs (IP) with patent potential leaving the company.
Furthermore, in these projects, there is often a need for low-volume manufacturing for special projects, rather than mass production. Nicomatic TR needed a compact "in-house" manufacturing solution that would ensure full confidentiality and maximize R&D speed.
Professional Solution with Rownd CNC and SolidCAM
To meet these critical needs, Nicomatic TR positioned the Rownd Desktop CNC Lathe in its R&D and low-volume production processes. Thanks to the advanced C-axis (4th axis) turning capability offered by the device, micro-connectors and complexly designed parts began to be machined with high precision directly in the Ankara office, without the need for external suppliers.
This hardware power provided by Rownd Precision was also supported by the best software in the industry. For Nicomatic TR, a professional SolidCAM user; a strategic collaboration was carried out between Rownd Precision and TEKYAZ, Turkey's largest SolidCAM distributor. Through this cooperation, a special post-processor and simulation integrations were set up for the Rownd CNC, offering a perfect solution for Nicomatic's industrial standard production expectations.
A Pilot Application Extending from Ankara to the World
The Rownd CNC machine successfully solved Nicomatic TR's needs for rapid prototyping, low-volume manufacturing, and one hundred percent design confidentiality with a single desktop machine.
This success, which brought zero external dependence and high speed, also attracted the attention of Nicomatic's global management. The Rownd CNC integration, which started as a pilot application in the Turkish office, due to the high efficiency achieved
